I recently replaced the heat sync on my GPU (AMD r9 390X) to reapply thermal adhesive. About a minute after powering up, the fans sped up dramatically and the monitors cut out, forcing me to log out or exit BIOS. I can still reach BIOS via another GPU, but I’m unsure what’s causing this issue. Anyone have any suggestions?

If you think I made a mistake and need to disassemble it, then put it back together carefully, using a manual if available.

If everything were reassembled correctly, there would be no issues. I’d look for the thermal paste and make sure the thermal pads match the original size—ideally just 0.25mm apart.
