I purchased a new external USB C SSD and initially achieved the advertised 1000 MB/s read speeds but only about 100 MB/s for writing. After some adjustments, reads improved to 100 MB/s while writes remained fast briefly. Now it's reverting to earlier performance. On my work notebook, the drive shows normal 1000 MB/s speeds, and via USB A I get 450 MB/s reads and 400 MB/s writes—perfect functionality there. I don’t have another USB C port on my PC for testing; I’m using the one from my front IO setup (Meshify 2). All tests were done with Crystal Disk Mark. While copying files, speeds drop to zero and become unstable, whereas Crystal Disk Mark sometimes fails to launch. Currently, I see better speeds but still insufficient. I’m confused about what’s happening. -Using Windows 10 64 Bit.
Specs: Ryzen 3600, RTX 2070 Super, Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite motherboard with latest BIOS, Corsair RM850x 850 Watts PSU, Samsung 970, Samsung 970 Evo Plus 2 TB.

It's the SanDisk Extreme 2 TB portable SSD. It seems to lack any special or fancy branding.

I set up my PC again, but it still didn’t work. Now I’m trying it in reverse once more.

I attempted a different cable just to be sure.

I managed to figure it out myself. The performance changes based on how I connect the USB C cable—fast reads or slow writes depending on the orientation. I think I could achieve this using two different cables, which is something I've never encountered before.
