Hey everyone! I’m trying a pretty unusual setup—using an external SSD via USB 3.0 instead of Windows 10 installed directly on my PC. I’m really curious if this works and how it affects performance. Have anyone tried this method before? What were their experiences? Any noticeable speed differences or issues? Thanks a lot!

I've tried it, the performance is decent, usually feels quick. The best setup seems to be Windows 2 GO, so verify what you're using.

You shouldn't experience significant performance drops. USB 3.0 (or now called 3.2 Gen1) offers sufficient bandwidth. Keep in mind, however, that the USB controller on your motherboard plays a big part and may cause increased latency.

Work should function perfectly, USB3 offers performance comparable to SATA.

USB could match SATA in speed, but it needs extra hardware since no devices come with a built-in USB port—they use cases include enclosures with controllers. This usually results in slower performance compared to native SATA. However, for everyday tasks this difference is probably not noticeable.
