Hey everyone, I'm facing a major issue right now. My PC's performance has just taken a huge hit. Used to achieve over 500fps in CSGO/CS2, but now I'm barely managing 100fps. After running a 3DMark test, my score came in at 1750. I own a custom water-cooled build. I've tried everything: fresh installs, driver updates, changed PCIe slots on the motherboard, adjusted RAM pins, even disassembled the GPU's water block, reapplied thermal paste and pads, and double-checked all power cables. Still nothing. I'm really confused. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'll also share photos of my PC and the bench results.

Between when it was functioning properly and when the issue started, what changes did you make? Were any new hardware added? Did you install any new drivers or Windows updates? How long has this HX850i model been used? Is your motherboard's BIOS current? Have you attempted a CLEAN graphics card driver installation using DDU? After reinstalling Windows, did you visit the motherboard manufacturer’s site, download the newest chipset, network/bluetooth adapters and audio controller drivers, and install them, or are you relying on the original Windows drivers for your motherboard's built-in parts? Have you checked the CPU, motherboard and graphics card thermal profiles while gaming to see if a thermal problem might be causing the sudden performance drop, since such unexpected slowdowns are often linked to a new thermal issue in one component.

Between the period when everything functioned properly and when the issue started, what modifications did you make? Were there any new hardware additions? Did you apply any fresh drivers or Windows updates? Nothing has changed since 2018.

Regarding the HX850i, how long has it been in service? It’s been the same build ever since 2018.

Have you attempted a CLEAN install of the graphics card drivers using the DDU? I’ll try that now.

Is your motherboard’s BIOS current? Yes, I upgraded it to the latest version before installing the fresh Windows version.

Following the clean Windows installation, did you visit the motherboard product page and download the newest chipset, network/bluetooth adapters, and audio controller drivers, or are you relying on the native Windows drivers for your motherboard’s internal parts?

Yes, I’ve installed all the drivers available on the motherboard site, including those for the GPU.

Have you checked the CPU, motherboard, and graphics card thermal profiles while gaming? This kind of sudden performance drop is often caused by a recent thermal issue in one component or another.

I reviewed the thermal data for both the CPU and GPU. They appear normal—CPU hit around 58°C max, GPU around 65°C max. So it doesn’t seem to be due to thermal throttling.

Which thermal sensor on the graphics card reached 65 degrees? Are you examining every single thermal sensor on the graphics card, since there are other possible issues beyond just the "GPU" temperature? Memory, VRM, hot spot, etc. Are you using any specific tool to track these temperatures? If you’re not using HWinfo, you should install it, launch it, select the "Sensors only" setting and verify all the thermal sensors again—not during 3DMark, but while playing any game or games where this issue occurs, as it’s possible one or more games might use instructions not tested in 3DMark. It’s unlikely, but synthetic tests don’t always match real-world results, so it’s still a good idea to compare both. If this is only happening in ONE game, it could be related to that particular game and not an issue with your hardware or operating system at all.

It's also the same with Dota 2, apparently the game is unplayable. For League of Legends I'm seeing around 240 frames, but I know it should be much higher with this configuration. I'm just running DDU at the moment. I'm not sure which thermal sensor to use, so I'm planning to download HWinfo now and test after that. Thanks for the quick replies too, that's really appreciated.

It seems like the issue might be related to your graphics card, as it appears consistent across all tests and there are no thermal concerns. Testing the power supply unit could be worthwhile if you have access to a volt or multimeter. A weak or failing PSU can cause problems, especially in older systems that have been used heavily, potentially leading to any hardware failure.

I think it might be. I tried the DDU install, but it didn't work. I just downloaded HWinfo and played a bit of CS2, but everything seems fine with the temperatures—yet I'm only getting 90FPS, which suggests the graphics card could be the issue. I hope it's the PSU after all. The most unusual part is that I haven't used the PC for over two years because I was working in and out of it, so I stored it in a storage unit. I wrapped it up and put it back in its original box. It had been functioning properly before storage. It’s possible the components might have degraded over time? I’m not sure. I’ll test the PSU and then try the graphics card on my brother’s PC to confirm.

Can you share your thermals on HWinfo? A screenshot would help.
