Performance of powerline (D-LAN) diminishes gradually.
Hey everyone, I’m facing a strange issue with my TPLink D-Lan adapter. I’ve installed it in four different locations and noticed the same problem consistently. At first, everything functions smoothly—low latency and bandwidth close to the advertised 300 Mbit/s. Over time, however, performance slowly declines after a few weeks. Eventually, it reaches over 100ms latency and drops below 5Mbit/s. I’ve considered overheating, poor hardware, or interference, but these seem unlikely. Once the issue starts, it doesn’t improve even when I disconnect the adapters for weeks. In my other buildings, the same pattern appears, and I can’t get it to work again. Switching power outlets or using a different PC doesn’t help either. The cables look worn, but that seems odd. Even worse, a friend who bought the same set reported identical problems. I’m stuck without a clear solution and would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance for your help!
It might be a problem with the Ethernet cables themselves. Have you verified the interface settings? It seems these devices are recording issues rather than resolving them promptly. I remain satisfied with Devolo products for years, though the older TP-link models were reliable and solid. It’s unclear what changed in the newer versions, but logs suggest it could be related to the cables—unless you’re using the standard Ethernet cables included with the product, which often perform poorly.
I've already tested various ethernet cables without any improvement. Clearly, no new power cables were installed in the buildings. If a device fails, it should be possible to resolve the issue by disconnecting the devices temporarily or by using adapters suited for your setup. Yet in my first house, I left the adapters on for over six months before retrying, and performance remained poor. Contrary to that, when I moved in, they worked perfectly for two weeks. After a short time in my new apartment, performance dropped and never recovered—similar to the situation in the first building. Once I switched to the powerline setup, it initially functioned well but eventually degraded over time, just like before. There seems to be something about the wiring that changes with prolonged adapter use, but I can't pinpoint what's causing it.
