How are your results in other games? It seems there's a new thread every week about CODWZ with shitty framerates, with no obvious resolution. This is with a wide range of hardware configurations, from low end to way faster than what you have. I think the game itself may just be trash

The CPU seems to be operating near full capacity, but this likely isn't due to a CPU limitation. If you switched to a 9900K, which the board likely can't run at maximum power, you'd face the same issue. A single channel 2666 isn't sufficient for an 8-core processor—it's running out of memory.

I wouldn't suggest replacing the entire motherboard unless necessary. Consider upgrading to a faster RAM option instead. You might want a budget-friendly 1151 socket mono for better performance.

This affordable Z390 board is currently on sale. It performed decently during the VRM testing in Hardware Unboxed's review, outperforming other budget options that struggled. For running the 9600K, it should be fine. If you're planning to use the 5600X, it will provide better performance and durability, even if the gains aren't huge right now. Consider upgrading the motherboard first if you're serious about a full platform refresh.

9600K with an OC still shows some strength. I don't believe it's your issue. There might be another factor at play or the game isn't great. Wait for DDR5 systems, which are arriving soon—perhaps a while away.
