Performance issues detected: CPU surges and GPU drops causing lag.
Hey everyone! Apologies for the initial request... I'm really unsure where to start. I just bought a new PC and kept some old components. Since then, I've experienced occasional stuttering—sometimes every 1.5 minutes, other times multiple times in half a minute. It usually starts with CPU spikes followed by GPU drops, then it stabilizes. The issue mainly occurs when playing Heroes of the Storm at the lowest possible settings in Warzone. The stutters last between 0.5 to 2 seconds. In-game, the screen and sound briefly freeze before resuming, but I can still chat clearly in Discord. I'm not certain if "stutter" is the right word, but that's how it feels. Here are my specs:
- CPU: i3-12100F
- Motherboard: Gigabyte B660M DS3H DDR4
- RAM: 2x8 DDR4-3200 (X570)
- Storage: 1TB NVMe SSD, 7200 RPM HDD
- Graphics: RX 6600 XT QICK EVGA Gold
I've tried several fixes:
1. Updated BIOS
2. Reinstalled Windows from scratch
3. Tested different RAM configurations with XMP settings
4. Used a 1070, 6600, and 6600 XT
5. Reset CMOS and updated BIOS again
6. Set Windows to High Performance mode
7. Disabled V-Sync
8. Adjusted power settings
9. Updated network drivers and removed TP-Link TX50E
10. Changed M.2 slots for NVMe
11. Turned off task manager during stutters
12. Reduced system wallpaper animation
CPU temps are around the 60s range. I've also checked power consumption—around 375W, which should still have plenty of headroom.
I've followed these steps and still face the problem. Task Manager showed minimal CPU usage during stutters (about 3% on Desktop Window Manager). Other signs: sometimes the CPU hits near 100% when launching apps or opening browsers, then drops to around 10-19%. Switching Discord servers or channels can cause a sudden jump to 45% CPU. It seems like the GPU might not be receiving instructions properly, which could explain the drop. The occasional 26% spike when browsing Chrome or Edge suggests storage or network issues, but I'm still puzzled.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a lot!
