Hey there, so I'm new to Fallout 4 and it's feeling really sluggish. Loading took me nearly five minutes, and opening a terminal or using lockpick takes around fifteen seconds before anything actually happens. The game froze completely for about ten seconds recently. Up until now, everything else has run smoothly—ultra mode is stable with consistent 60fps, and my GPU/CPU temps are in the 65-75 range. Anyone have any tips to fix this? I'm currently checking file integrity on Steam, but if that doesn't work, what other options do you suggest? Also, I've noticed gun sounds sometimes lag by 5-6 seconds or disappear for a couple of minutes, followed by lots of explosions when I stand still. I've restarted the game a few times, but it hasn't helped. Thanks!

What are your specifications? I'm checking which HD resolution you'd use. Note these details: CPU i7 4720HQ7, Intel HD Graphics 4600, 16GB RAM, GTX 970M, 1TB SSD, 7200rpm display (1920x1080), matte finish, 15'6" monitor, keyboard Corsair K50, mouse Corsair M95, Windows 7 X64. When using Intel HD, you won't reach 1080*1920; try lower settings like 1900*600 or 720P. Wait—I just noticed you also had a 970M, didn't catch it right away. Check if you might have disabled that one. If not, update drivers and review GPU usage percentage.

Have you confirmed the consistency of the game cache?

Have you checked for updates? If not, attempt to reinstall the drivers using DDU. It will prompt you to enter safe mode for removal. Once done, download and install the latest versions from the manufacturer's site.

I recently updated the drivers, but it remains active since loading it gives me 60fps. The audio is slightly off, and performance drops significantly when interacting, though movement feels normal.

I obtained my drivers from Nvidia GeForce Experience and my CPU ones from Intel Auto Updater. I believe they should work, but I’m considering reinstalling both to check if it resolves the problem. Appreciate your advice!

Sure, I get it—what you were trying to say is clear now. Just needed a way to put it into words.

then the game cache would be the only thing I could think off. except maybe for a really really slow harddrive. Try defragging the FO4 files, this is a good free defragging tool: https://www.piriform.com/defraggler
