Performance is lower than expected on my high-end PC. Help needed!
Hello, I'm trying to figure out why my PC feels so sluggish despite having those specs. I've looked up recommendations for my setup but haven't found much help. My details are: Ryzen 5 5500 XR, 6 cores, 8 GB RAM, 16 GB SSD, 480 GB storage. I've played a few games: Battlefield V Ultra (around 80 FPS), Rust 55-90, Hell Let Loose (50-70 with stutters), and CS2 (90 FPS). These frame rates look way lower than what others report. I'm also experiencing frequent stuttering across all titles. Could you suggest possible issues and maybe someone with similar specs can share their actual performance numbers? Thanks!
Regards, Harley
Let me know where you think people with identical parts perform better. The 5500 CPU and 6600 GPU seem to be weaker options. Do you have a hard drive? You mentioned an SSD, but it’s small—maybe you also use secondary storage? This could be causing the stutters.
Verify the standard components: Confirm Windows is configured for a High Performance plan or Ryzen Balanced depending on your setup. Install all available Windows updates. Update drivers, especially those for CPU, GPU, and chipset via AMD Adrenaline. Provide specifics about RAM speed, SSD type and age, and power supply details (brand and model). Any discrepancies in these areas might impact performance.
I kept the post concise and left the details in the comments. Here’s what you shared:
- Max resolution: 1920x1080
- Default setting: usually runs at 1080p
- When playing CS2, switched to 3600mhz DDR4 RAM
- Motherboard: 2x8 Kingston M.2 SSD (500GB Gen 2)
- CPU: Corsair RM 650W 80 Plus Gold
- All components are new or recently replaced
- No major differences noticed between high and comp settings
Thanks for the info!
i prefer not to share links to random websites, though one site helped me understand where my computer should perform best. In many games, people with similar specs often achieve higher FPS than me. I currently use a Kingston M.2 500 GB SSD and a 500 GB hard drive, but I always keep my games on the SSD.
Try 3DMark Timespy on Steam. Share your scores here so we can check for hardware problems.
Thanks for the idea! The link you shared shows a valid result, but it seems a bit below average for those specs. It could be due to Windows settings affecting performance. Let me know if you'd like some advice on optimizing it.
Your GPU is probably reaching its power ceiling. You can adjust the settings via the GPU utility to raise the limit, and you have ample thermal capacity. Normally the sustained speed is around 2400mhz, but with limits it drops about 10%. That performance is roughly what you'd see on a new unit. Keep in mind that most users who check 3Dmark are likely overclocking their hardware.
Sure, using tools like MSI Afterburner to adjust power limits can reduce the chance of hitting those limits. The scores might have been higher before the changes were made. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and the helpful feedback!
