Performance is lower than anticipated after the latest update (Ryzen 7 5700X3D plus RTX 3080Ti).
I just wrapped up my first PC build. The full parts list is available here: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/GYQ8Jn. In short, the components include an AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D, 64GB of 3600MHz DDR4 RAM in dual-channel, and an EVGA RTX 3080Ti. Even though I thought it would be a well-rounded gaming setup, my performance isn’t matching expectations. In Red Dead Redemption 2, my average FPS isn’t even close to the lows reported by Gamers Nexus, and in Rainbow 6 Siege it doesn’t reach the ultra-low numbers they achieved. I’ve attached screenshots of my benchmark results along with HWiNFO logs from when I ran them. A FurMark screenshot is also included for reference. Did I overestimate my goals, or is there something wrong with the system? Please let me know if you have any details that could help clarify the issue.
RDR2 built-in tests aren't very reliable. They vary a lot, and you'll likely see higher performance with Vulkan instead of DirectX. DirectX tends to give better average scores. The benchmark score isn't very useful. Power usage is more interesting—R6Siege doesn't really gain much from 3D caching, so it's not the best measure.
You're asking about discrepancies in performance measurements. It seems you're trying to understand why your average FPS results vary despite consistent settings, and why the CPU usage looks low during a CPU-heavy test like the R6 benchmark. This could indicate differences in hardware setup or measurement methods.
The benchmark shows irregular frame time spikes during transitions, especially at 0.1% and 1% lows. Overall performance differs significantly from real-game experience. GN doesn't rely on built-in tests; instead, they run in-game, which likely causes the large discrepancy. To match results, you need to understand where in the game this was tested and how. Also, what level of MSAA was used?
How much MSAA do you use in RDR2? Also do you have actual performance data for comparison or just a hunch?
It seems inconsistent with your stats. For example, your in-game FPS matched closely with your benchmarks, even after using an overlay.
