I've invested several weeks trying to figure out a performance problem on my wife's computer. For her, the Problem PC Gaming is crucial, especially while she plays her favorite MMO. I thought it would be nice to add some wallpapers from her favorite fandom to brighten up her screen. You might not think such a simple change would affect her gaming, but it definitely did. You'll see a steady ticking every minute, which reduces performance by about 15 FPS and adds input lag. Her system specs are: CPU – Ryzen 1600, Motherboard – ASUS ROG B350-F, RAM – GSkill 2x8GB @ 3200Mhz, GPU – ASUS GTX 1060 with 6GB VRAM, Power Supply – 650W Corsair CX650M, Cooler – CoolerMaster MasterLiquid 120W, BIOS – up to date. I followed these steps: updated Windows, refreshed drivers, checked connections, made sure BIOS was current, turned off overclocking, reinstalled OS twice, refreshed once, installed chipset drivers, tweaked power settings, and even tried a fresh install from the media. After adjusting NVIDIA performance settings, I noticed the ticking disappeared in MSI Afterburner. My system with a 6600K OC to 4.6Ghz still shows high idle CPU usage. This issue seems to have been around since Windows 1903 and hasn't changed much. Hope this helps anyone facing similar problems.
