Performance fluctuates with FPS changes on HI-END PC
I'm facing issues with my PC that affect performance in almost every game I play. FPS drops and lagging occur whether I set it to low or full HD. The main problems include Battlefield 1, Batman Arkham Knight, Deus EX Mankind, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Call Of Prypiat, Metro Last Light Redux, Metro 2033, Far Cry Primal, Far Cry 4, The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt, Minecraft with shader and without shader. I'm unsure what steps to take and this has been ongoing for about six months. My PC specs are: Intel Core I7-8700K at 4.7 GHz Hyper Threading (CPU is after DELID). It runs cooler with a MasterLiquid ML240L RGB VGA Asus Rog Strix GTX 1080 Ti 11 GB Gaming OC, 1.7 GHz MB, and has G.SKILL Z-370 E-Gaming RAM at 16 GB DDR4 3200 MHz. SSD is Trident Z RGB 3200 MHz, and the HDD is Samsung 860 EVO 250 GB. All games are on an HDD drive.
If I were you, I'd set up MSI Afterburner together with Rivaturner to keep an eye on CPU, GPU, and RAM usage along with temperatures. This would help identify which part is causing the FPS drop. Given your high-end components, I might also think about a software problem. As a tip, you can look in the task manager during gaming for any unusual processes.
The most recent time you updated Windows on your PC remains unknown. It appears to be a software-related concern.
Windows 10 home 64-bit was set up on June 25. I attempted to run BF 1 with GPU usage capped at 40% and CPU at 50%, but the performance was very poor. It seems the low GPU utilization of around 30% doesn’t match expectations, particularly in Batman Arkham Knight where it keeps chopping me. I tested it at 144,120.60 Hz with a consistent 60 FPS target, yet nothing improved.
However, the Deus Ex Manking Task Manager consumed just 3500 MB, while the GPU utilization remained around 30-40% of the CPU load.
