Certainly, the FPS dropped because you were rendering at a greater resolution. Each pixel required more processing, increasing the workload. The higher refresh rate monitor didn’t boost your actual frame rate—it just displayed more frames per second.

The graphics card needs to work harder now because you increased the resolution...this is going to stay this way.

It doesn't improve when I revert the resolution to 1680x1050; FPS remains steady at 1920x1080.

What kind of resolution curse is this? You must utilize every pixel on the display, especially with a higher resolution monitor or TV.

It was a moderately popular screen resolution around the late 2000s, similar to how 16:10 1920x1200 was common before 16:9 1920x1080 "full HD" took over. I think the user's old monitor was quite outdated.
