Hello all, CPU: AMD FX-8300 3.3 GHz 8-Core Processor CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO Motherboard: Asus M5A78L-M PLUS/USB3 Micro ATX Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR3-1600 Memory Storage: Crucial BX500 240 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon RX 570 4 GB Gaming 4G Case: Corsair SPEC-02 ATX Mid Tower Case Power Supply: Corsair Enthusiast 650 W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply I recently put a new motherboard din my PC to try out overclocking. I've ran into an issue when benching. The CPU runs great for a while until something called TMPIN0 hit 54*C in HWMonitor and GHz drop to 1.4 (Clocked to 4.1) Can anyone tell me what that is reading? And why it would be reading so low? From what I understand the GHz drop is my CPU thermal throttling but 54*c doesn't sound that bad? Stressing my CPU with CPU-Z Actual CPU temps look fine, never getting north of 45*C Confused as to why my CU would be thermal throttling? Is that readout possibly my VRM? It has a heat-sink and good airflow

No, HWinfo does not report more temperature sensors.

Thanks! The image displays an additional TMPIN1 value, yet it doesn’t capture the temperatures seen with TMPIN0. Also, during the temperature changes, my CPU temperature drops unexpectedly to about 23°C even though I’m at full load and under stress. That’s quite unusual.

HWmonitor differs from HWinfo; HWinfo provides more detailed info, while HWmonitor is the free version (though both are open-source). It's probably more affordable. Asus boards usually don't show VRM temps directly—consider opening the case and using a desk fan to cool the motherboard. If that works, it might mean the VRM is overheating. VRM handles power delivery to components not running on 12V, 5V, or 3.3V.

Oops, sorry about the mix-up. I reviewed the HWInfo and found it much more useful. The screenshot attached shows the 50°C reading on TMPIN0 linked to the CPU. That temperature seems to match the TMPIN0 value. What does that actual number mean? Also, I’m still puzzled why the system throttles at 53°C—doesn’t that sound unusually high?

Estimate CPU temperature suggests socket heat, while the motherboard might be measuring somewhere else. The 12V rail reading at just 10.5V is interesting. Increasing fan speed could help reduce the 50°C reading.

Both intake and exhaust fans are linked through a fan splitter, and the cooler is connected directly to that path. The cooler should be operating well if temperatures stay low. I verified my 12V system and everything is functioning well. Activated Turbo mode for the CPU and chassis fans. While it may not make a significant difference, it’s better than the regular setting. Also switched Turbo Core to Auto rather than keeping it disabled in case this was the problem.

You need a huge quantity of excess paste for worse results. Otherwise, it's just applying paste everywhere near the socket, making cleanup difficult. The CPU cooler mounting pressure should be verified, as BIOS is tailored for your specific board rather than general software.
