Hello, this is my initial post here; please forgive any omissions. About two years ago, after assembling the system, I experienced no problems initially. However, around 20+ days ago, I lost track of time while repeatedly checking this case. It became increasingly annoying, so I sought advice on Reddit, but found nothing useful. Back then, I remember it started becoming clear after shutting down the PC and a recent Windows update. I couldn’t recall a particularly recent update, yet my performance dropped noticeably after restarting. My PC has never had stability or crash issues, but gaming performance is affected.
I’ve always had trouble with Windows updates. Once forced to upgrade to 24H2, I encountered constant stutters every second and even a crash that required me to restart multiple times. That was months before this issue began.
I’ve tried numerous solutions so far, which has left me somewhat confused. (This list is outdated; I also can’t remember the smaller steps I took afterward.)
- Updated BIOS from F9 to F15
- Tested various NVIDIA drivers using DDU
- Performed a full PC clean and reapplied thermal paste
- Disabled HAGS, but kept it on since I use FrameGen for certain games
- Ran comprehensive virus scans
- Reinstalled Windows 24H2, which restored previous results, so I reverted
- Ran a Windows reinstall to fix other issues, though not performance
- Enabled XMP/REBAR
- Disabled Fast Boot, VBS, Core Isolation
- Turned off Game Bar, Game Mode, and Overlays
- Set Power Plan to Balanced (other options were harmful)
- Disabled unused sound devices
- Experimented with disconnecting and reconnecting my Bluetooth dongle
- Checked RAM health via Windows Memory Diagnostic and drive health with CrystalDiskInfo
- In-game temperatures are normal, CPU stays below 80°C
- Tried disabling V-Sync/Freesync without noticeable improvement
Another peculiar observation is that games run smoothly until FPS drops slightly below V-sync, at which point stuttering increases and lows become more pronounced.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, as I’m determined to resolve this issue.
Begin by ensuring your system information is current. Many users with Windows 11 are using 24h2 or 25h2 and typically don’t encounter the issues you’re discussing. However, if you’ve installed recent drivers or played games on an older Windows version, it might be causing problems.
The main reason for performance drops and screen tearing is usually a graphics driver update made while a GPU utility was still running in the background. Are you using MSI Afterburner or similar tools? A fresh Windows installation should have resolved this if it was the cause.
Have you run benchmarks such as Time Spy or CPUZ? It would help to determine whether the issue lies with the GPU or the CPU. If your system runs smoothly and XMP is enabled, a RAM problem is unlikely.
The latest updates appear to be limited, and it seems I can't refresh Windows again at the moment. I only use Msi Afterburner when I need to check performance, as it doesn't run continuously by default.
It doesn't seem to have changed much, isn't it? I'm still thinking it might be related to the window updates, since those don't seem very reliable for me. I also saw a Reddit post from two days ago about a similar problem, mentioning that their game performance dropped in early December, which matches when mine did too.
