Hey there, I've been facing some frustrating problems with my PC lately. My system runs a solid build—MSI MAG A520M motherboard, AMD Ryzen 5600X CPU, and an EVGA RTX 3080 GPU. I'm using a 1 TB WD Black SN770 NVME drive and a Toshiba X300 6TB HDD. The PSU is an EVGA SuperNova 850 GT 850W, and I've got 32 GB of Corsair Vengeance RAM at 3400mhz. Cooling comes from the Corsair H100i RGB unit.

I've noticed my games are consistently lagging. Even simple titles like Spiderman Remastered drop in FPS dramatically when I move around, and sometimes it freezes completely before snapping back after a few seconds. At first, even games like Dead by Daylight feel extremely sluggish. After about two minutes of gameplay, things stabilize, but performance remains subpar.

I checked the temperatures with Afterburner—GPU stayed under 50°C and CPU below 60°C. Utilization numbers were low: GPU never exceeded 70%, CPU around 10-15%. My power plan is set for high performance and PCI links are off. All drivers seem up to date, and I even reinstalled Windows from scratch. Still, the issue keeps coming up.

I'm at a bit of a dead end. Both games are running smoothly on the NVME drive, but the drive's speed doesn't seem to be the culprit. What should I do next?

It seems like your CPU isn't receiving the power it needs to operate smoothly. What I'm referring to might be a problem with your motherboard. This board is an A520 chipset, originally designed for gaming rigs and R3s. The VRMs aren't delivering enough power efficiently, which is my guess based on my experience with A520 boards. (This is just an assumption since I haven't worked with them before.)

It's a 5600x with an RTX 3080, you know? They really should upgrade their setup. It’s way better than an A520m.

It seems your motherboard isn't up to par... I also think you should verify if your GPU has the PCIe 3 x16 connection it requires. Use GPU-Z for a detailed check.

We discovered the problem. EVGA Precision x1 was running DDU, drivers were reinstalled and everything felt fine. When I tried Precision x1 again for fan control, lag came back. I removed Precision x1, restarted the system and it worked perfectly. Playing Spiderman Remastered at 4K with very high settings is now smooth. I’ll still upgrade my motherboard eventually but this fix is really appreciated.

More users affected by terrible OEM firmware. Simply use MSI Afterburner to adjust fan settings.
