Hey, I just got the new Dell XPS 13 and thought about starting with a fresh setup. Is it just a full formatting and clean install, or should I follow any special steps first?

Open Settings and select "Reset" – it should work similarly for Windows 10.

Make sure you get the same Windows version it usually runs—likely 8.1. Use a USB stick because it lacks a DVD drive and a fresh installation is ideal. This approach works well for cleaning up an OEM PC, especially when avoiding issues with Lenovo models. I always opt for a clean install from OEMs.

Once reset, it won't be a vanilla Windows setup. It'll behave exactly like it did on the first boot, with everything fresh. A clean install is advised. I could suggest PCDecrapifier, but it leaves some remnants and registry changes. So definitely go for a clean installation.

On a friend's HP laptop, after resetting, everything seemed to reset again, likely from the recovery partition.

It's nearly ready for a fresh setup, but some parts still need fixing to ensure perfect tones.

The partitions created by Dell appear in an unusual arrangement, which prevents Windows from installing properly even after deletion.

If they remain in the Windows installer, you must utilize the DiskPart utility included with the installation package. This will remove them.
