I switched to Windows 10 yesterday and now need to perform another installation on a different HDD since I’m transferring the current one with Windows 10. I have a 500GB empty drive and want to set up Windows 10 there. How can I do a clean install of 10 and activate it? Should I use an older version like 8.1 and upgrade, or should I get a fresh ISO and install that instead?

Make sure you receive the W10 key during the upgrade, collect it, and apply it when reinstalling.

Windows 10 automatically identifies your hardware without requiring a key. As long as your motherboard was used in a system with Windows 10 before, it should work fine.

I reviewed the information from the Microsoft site. You should select the "Create installation media for another PC" option to generate a USB drive with Windows 10.

Generate installation files and connect them to your USB drive, then start from there to reset and set up the system.
