In short, my brother can’t start Windows and there’s no external backup right now. We’ve tried many solutions but nothing works. We’re planning a clean Windows installation from a bootable media. His SSD is split into two parts: one with the OS and installed files (CSmile, and another with personal data (DSmile. Can we only wipe the C: partition using the install media without affecting the D: drive? I think it’s possible to format just the C: partition to start fresh, keeping the D: intact, even if they’re on the same drive.

Create the image first, then proceed with installation. If you start from an install, you have flexibility to choose partitions and other partitions.
