Should I pick Pentium or i3?
If budget is tight, the i3 seems more sensible. A B150 board works well with i3 and won't require a Pentium later. You can also use a Z170 board with i3, which means you only need to upgrade later if needed. Plus, there are non-K I7 options available for the B150 board that support future upgrades.

they sealed the gap where you could boost performance on a non-K CPU as well, which means it's not possible there either
