Hi everyone, I’m experiencing uneven WiFi performance in my room. My phone is getting 60-80Mbps while my PC only receives around 18Mbps. It seems my current Wi-Fi card might be the issue. I own an off-brand model from Amazon with an Intel 7265 chipset. Since I’m not very comfortable with networking, could this be the reason for the slow speeds? Any advice on upgrading to a better card would be super helpful!

The 7265 chipset is expected to handle Wi-Fi 5, potentially reaching speeds up to 867 Mbps. This depends on the environment around the card and its antenna. The number of obstacles between it and the router matters. Check which Wi-Fi standard the router uses. Nearby networks could cause interference. Your phone is likely in a higher position for testing, while the card’s antenna might be blocked by the computer’s metal casing.

Arrange your PC so antennas face the same direction as the router. Your case is built to reduce RF interference, which makes antennas less useful inside. Avoid placing air vents directly in line with the router—they act like a Faraday cage and block WiFi. Try moving the router and PC closer together for better performance. Reduce wall obstacles between them; they slow WiFi but don’t stop it entirely. Consider the router model—some offer features like beam-forming to extend coverage.
