PCIe device triggering a system reboot during startup
The system powers up, spins the fans, displays RGB effects, then cuts off briefly before restarting properly. I think the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth chip is responsible. This happened before my GPU upgrade; the top slot was available, but now it's blocked. I'm using the lower slot now. Any idea why this repeated shutdown occurs? It seems unnecessary for the PC to restart so often. Appreciate any help from readers.
Have you attempted to reset the CMOS? The motherboard seems stuck on its previous settings, especially remembering the WiFi card was in that higher slot. Resetting CMOS could force a fresh setup. If that doesn’t work, consider clearing the 1X slot. Leaving it idle for some time might have caused buildup.
I restored the CMOS after setting up my new GPU in early January. Interestingly, I placed my 1x wifi/bluetooth card in the lower 16x PCIe port and everything functioned properly. No reboots needed during startup and it works well when opening Windows. It seems the lower 1x slot might have had persistent problems that I didn’t fix at the time of purchase.
I’ve faced a similar situation: I put a PCIe to NVMe card in my bottom 16x slot, and everything worked perfectly. After spinning up fans and displays, resetting, and booting, the SSD in that adapter stopped working after just two months. The new adapter didn’t fail—it was still there. What’s happening? Is something wrong with my motherboard?
It's interesting what I experience with the ASUS Prime B350-plus. At first, the PCI-E slots functioned properly, but after a year without using them, I installed a Wi-Fi card and still faced the same issue. I tried various cards and even rebooted, but nothing resolved it. Removing the card or turning off the power supply didn't help.
