Hey, I recently began using the itx build in Fractal Ridge. My old GTX 750Ti ran fine with it, but my new MSI Ventus RTX 3060 12GB didn’t work at first. After two days of troubleshooting, I finally removed the motherboard and connected the GPU directly—everything functioned perfectly. I was confident the card would work since it worked in another PC. The issue seems to be with the PCIe extender and the card itself. Still puzzled as to why the GTX 750Ti worked in the same setup. Any insights would be appreciated. Specs: 13600kf Gigabyte AORUS Z690 i ultra 32GB, Kingston Fury DDR5 5600, Samsung Pro 980 SSD, Corsair SF750. Thanks!

Have you attempted to set the slot to PCIe 3.0 in the BIOS? Avoid letting it attempt automatic negotiation. Set it to 3.0.

What PCIe standard does the riser cable support? Since the 750ti supports PCIe 3.0 and the 3060 uses PCIe 4.0, version compatibility matters. Mismatched versions might lead to instability. You’re probably better off using a PCIe Gen 4 riser. But first, check your BIOS settings and adjust the slot to Gen 3 manually—this often resolves the problem.

You need to configure the GPU to use PCIe 3.0 instead of PCIe 4.0, which is a BIOS adjustment.

The differences matter a lot here. Even though fractal says the riser is for Gen 4, your Gen 4 GPU should still work fine. Pushing to Gen 3 means you’re sacrificing some performance.

You've already hinted at it being the cable or Gen, so going ahead won't cause any issues. I assumed you're using a 750Ti, but the focus shifts to PCIe 4.0 starting at 3080 and beyond.

Fractal designs come in various states, and real-world applications differ from theoretical ideals. Some riser cables deliver only about 97% reliable performance, while achieving full reliability would be a significant advantage over systems that often fail or underperform.

And to add, that performance difference is only in benchmarks. In games, there is no difference.

It might be a defective riser, so I’d reach out to Fractal to check it out. Their customer service has been excellent based on my experience.
