PCIE 5 vs 4
PCIE 5 vs 4
On my motherboard there are two PCIe x16 ports, the nearest to the CPU is a GEN 5 and the other a GEN 4. I'm using the Hyte Y70 with a GEN 4 riser and GPU, which is also GEN 4. With both the riser and GPU being GEN 4, should I expect problems in the GEN 5 slot or is there something I should adjust? Details: CPU, Ryzen 9 9950X3D; cooler, Asus ROG Ryujin III ARGB Extreme; motherboard, ASUS ROG STRIX X870-A GAMING WiFi (AM5); RAM, 96GB Corsair Dominator DDR5-6600; storage, Samsung 990 Pro 4TB + 970 Evo 1TB; GPU, MSI RTX 4090 from previous build; power supply, 1200W Platinum. Case is the Hyte Y70.
PCIe supports backward compatibility. The card functions properly in a PCIe 5.0 slot as well as a PCIe 3.0 slot. Note that the second slot is technically x16 but only uses x4 connections. https://rog.asus.com/motherboards/rog-st...wifi/spec/ Refer to "Expansion Slots"
