PCIe 4x1 network card
PCIe 4x1 network card
OWC features a 10Gbit card designed for 4.0x1 speed, though it operates physically with two lanes. I've faced issues getting it to function even with an adapter in a 4.0x1 port. It seems working in a fully open-end slot would have been easier. I might have succeeded better if the port was oriented differently. I can transfer it to my Synology using another Aquantia 113c card at 3.0x1. I’ve settled for something adequate. The OWC card performed about 1.5Gbit faster on a 4.0x4 slot, but I still have a 7.68TB U.2 drive in that slot and won’t trade it.
The speed is just 7.88Gbit with some overhead, as shown in my screenshots. At 3.0x1 I can reach full bandwidth. By the way, I'm setting up another machine with integrated graphics—placing a qnap 3.0x8 card inside that supports 10Gbit plus two 3.0 NVME drives (it includes a built-in PCIe switch). I might approach 6-7Gbit on that one too.
It's a 5.0Gbit 3.0x1 card, roughly 15 bits less in speed compared to the 10Gbit model I received.
