Hello, your MSI x370 Gaming Plus has mixed reports about adding a PCIE 4.0 GPU. Some sources say there’s no backward compatibility between versions 3.0 and 4.0, only a slight performance drop, while another article confirms PCIE 4.0 isn’t supported for this board. The MSI support page lists only PCIE 3.0 GPUs, which suggests the hardware isn’t recognized by the system. Whether it means the BIOS won’t update or you can’t install the GPU depends on the exact model and firmware version.

It will function properly with no noticeable variation in speed. Current GPUs can operate on PCIe 2.0 with minimal impact on performance.

This indicates the board lacks PCIe 4.0 support, yet it remains compatible with GPUs featuring PCIe 4.0. The GPU will operate in PCIe 3.0 mode to ensure backward compatibility.

The models running on 8GB VRAM should work fine at their supported resolutions. Issues arise with lower PCIe versions (6600/XT, 3050) and reduced VRAM buffers. The 6500xt with PCIe4.0x4 and 4GB VRAM performs poorly.
