Your GPU is blocking the PCIe 1x lane, but you can still install a Wi-Fi extender. Just plan accordingly.

A free option is to utilize an alternative PCIe port if one exists; it doesn’t require a single slot and allows inserting cards into 16x slots. Practical alternatives include cooling the GPU with a water block to fit it into a standard slot, or locating a slim enough PCIe 1x riser to conceal under the heatsink of your GPU. Neither method is guaranteed to work effectively.

Are you referring to the tiny section beside the PCIe 16x port?

Another user mentioned this approach. You might also find the link helpful: https://www.amazon.com/pcie-1x-riser/s?k=pcie+1x+riser Remember, I haven't used a riser myself. Align the notch, then insert the Wi-Fi card into an x4 / x8 / x16 slot. The highlighted red part of the image fits into the left side of the PCIe slot while the purple highlighted area stays outside.

Riser cables function when the enclosure is spacious enough to accommodate the card outside the motherboard area, or when your card includes a compact mounting bracket. You can place the riser cable into the designated x1 port and then guide the ribbon or USB cable through the bottom of the motherboard. For standard-sized cards with typical brackets, it’s best to secure the card on the case beyond the motherboard footprint so the connector fits comfortably underneath. If your card features a low-profile bracket, you can position it anywhere. Remember that PCI-E x1 slots near the video card area might be disabled if another slot is used or if a second NVMe SSD is installed. Always consult the manual for specific guidance.

The tiny section beside the 16x handles PCIe power and device identification or negotiation, not data transfer. You could place something like "Spoiler" there.
