Afternoon everyone, I’m facing some problems with my ~6-year-old PC. After a fresh Ubuntu install, the system ran smoothly on the same hardware as before, but this time I encountered issues during installation, especially with PCIe references. At first, I removed all RAM because I’ve had trouble with faulty modules before, but no improvement was seen after trying various combinations. Then I took out my Wi-Fi card and the install completed without issues. After the OS was installed, I reinstalled the Wi-Fi card, but the status light didn’t activate. I tested different PCIe slots without success. I visited a local shop and replaced the Wi-Fi card with another cheap one, expecting it to fix the problem, but it also didn’t show up on the system or the status light remained off. I reset the CMOS and changed the power connectors in the motherboard, but nothing changed. I also unplugged and replugged all power connectors to the PSU. Any further troubleshooting steps you recommend? Also, I tried swapping the HDMI cable from my GPU to the motherboard to use integrated graphics on the CPU, but the system wouldn’t boot after that—it gave 5 beeps through the speaker, which worked before. I returned to using the GPU and it functioned correctly. The motherboard model is Gigabyte Z370P-D3, if that’s useful.

You're asking for clarification on what's happening. The system either didn't post or the WiFi card failed to start. If the latter, you might need to set it up manually. I encountered this with an add-on card (I210 LAN) while using Alpine, not Ubuntu, and it didn't function until you configured it yourself.

The Wi-Fi card includes a status LED that usually illuminates, and it previously updated without prompting from Ubuntu. You're wondering if I need to manually instruct Ubuntu to locate it? I'm planning to check, so I ran lshw—it didn't appear. The manufacturer's drivers for this card seem outdated, even though I recall they worked before.

Checks if it appears in other PCIe ports; absence suggests your motherboard might be failing.
