PCI-E x1 slot in PCI-E x16 port Card compatible with PCI-E x1 interface
PCI-E x1 slot in PCI-E x16 port Card compatible with PCI-E x1 interface
While studying for my upcoming upgrade, I overlooked my sound card. Now I’m stuck using an Audigy RX that doesn’t fit in the MB. The specific model is the Gigabyte Aorus X670 Elite AX v1.2. Online sources suggest it should work in the x16 slot if properly secured in the chassis. I managed to fasten it, but it’s not visible in Device Manager. I’ve installed the newest drivers (2022), yet they crash with a BSOD. Older drivers (2018) worked fine before, but now the card still doesn’t appear. When it’s active, I experience random BSODs with the same error code: DRIVER_OVERRAN_STACK_BUFFER. Is there a problem with the card itself? It functioned perfectly in an older system using a PCI-E x1 slot. Could BIOS settings affect recognition? Or is a different slot required? Maybe an adapter from X16 to X1 would help?
The slot width issue is resolved—any card width fits in any slot. Consider adjusting the slot's speed in the BIOS settings.
Avoid relying solely on the motherboard audio; the Audigy offers unique capabilities for enhanced sound quality.
I haven't heard any music yet, but the AMP headphones are missing. They're 50 ohms, so an AMP is required for proper performance. On the internal card I need to set the volume to 100% to match the 30-40% level on the Audigy RX.
50 ohm isn't an extreme value. It doesn't really reflect how challenging headphone drivers are. BUT let's talk about the soundcard... Skip the x16 to x1 converter. If you're investing, opt for a USB DAC instead. Soundcards have been around since the day of their creation, and most motherboard audio options perform just as well or better unless a unique card is required. (thik recording studio)
I checked the card on a friend's machine with a PCI-E x1 port and two PCI-E x16 slots. It didn’t work in the x1 slot, even though it booted fine in the x16 slot. After swapping the card to the sound card position, it functioned properly. I tried again on my own system using the first x16 slot, but the video card failed. Removing the video card and inserting the sound card resolved the issue. It seems the problem might be with the physical slots or their condition.
