I've had motherboards with that latch, there is still no space to get my fingers into it. Problem is that the latches were designed when GPUs coolers were shorter than the slot, so you could reach more easily. If anything the ones where you just slide the whole latch off are the easiest as they don't involve any kind of manipulation. Apart from the odd boards now which have the sense to actually include a mechanism that releases it away from the GPU entirely.
