PC won't boot
Hello, my morning started with the PC showing the AD post code on the motherboard. After some research, I reset my CMOS and updated the BIOS. Now I can't access the BIOS and instead see a different screen (attached). To be clear, I don’t have three keyboards, two mice, or a headset dongle connected. Only one keyboard and one mouse plus the headset cable. I tried resetting CMOS again but it didn’t work. Pressing DEL and F2 at startup didn’t help either, and pressing F1 doesn’t do anything. Yesterday I just worked and played Forza, but nothing changed on the system. My setup includes an Asus ROG Maximus X Hero Intel I7-8700k with 32GB GDDR4 RAM, GTX 1080 Ti, NVME cards, a Samsung 1TB drive, and a 6TB hybrid storage drive. I’m looking forward to your feedback below.
I’ve managed to reach the Bios section, but it seems my Windows setup has crashed completely, so a full reset is necessary. It’s really frustrating, but I hope it works again. For you, Windows 11 would be a good option.
So if someone finds this, I hope you can help me figure out the issue. After realizing I had to press the FN key on the screen to enter BIOS (which felt a bit silly since I hadn’t tried that before), I managed to restore RAID mode. I restarted the PC and encountered a Blue Screen of Death, which eventually led to Windows Recovery. I attempted three fixes: first, reinstalling Windows with just the files, but it didn’t boot; second, using Startup Repair, which also failed; third, recovering from a previous recovery point, still no boot. Not knowing what to search, I decided to move my M.2 drive from its old slot to a new one. It worked then. I’m not sure about computers, but I’m confused: A) Why did it stop working after being in that slot for years without issues? B) Why would moving the drive change things, since it stays in the same place and never shifts? C) Should I worry about the drive or motherboard lasting longer going forward, especially since my hybrid drive isn’t performing well?
