PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2
It's [disgusting] to compare since it changes its visual options based on your graphics card.
Running RTX 2070 at full power struggles to keep 50fps in high definition. Mixed ultra-to-high mode and without anti-aliasing cause drops to around 33–38 frames when lightning scenes appear. Overall, it feels like a solid but challenging gaming experience.
Played it in One X, going through it again now. Expecting the Christmas Steam launch to secure it for my PC. Honestly, Red Dead stands out as one of the top games I've enjoyed—truly impressive how polished it appears on consoles. The native 4K 30 on One X is remarkable, especially given the vast open world.
This application runs on R7 2700X with 4GHz Wi-Fi and all eight processing units operating around 45 to 50% capacity. It seems either not well-tuned for efficiency or it consumes significant power, possibly affecting performance.
RDR2 consumes a lot of GPU power. With a GTX 1080 Ti I had to reduce settings to keep performance above 60 FPS at 1080P, with GPU usage between 97% to 99% during the whole session. My older i7 980x OC (4.4 GHz) is essentially an X58 platform. The CPU handled the game smoothly, showing only minor lag in a full-hour playthrough. In short, RDR2 demands a strong GPU, while even older CPUs usually manage it well.
