I improved my graphics card from a 750 Ti to a 5700X, but my computer freezes whenever I start a tough game before it even loads. My PSU is 580 watts and has been in use for about ten years, so I suspect that’s the issue. I’m considering replacing it just to be safe.
Did you switch drivers using DDU? You might want to try a new Windows installation if that’s simple for you (even if it means wiping your PC). Generally, yes—I’d move the PSU from 60W TDP to 225W TDP.
I didn't install the ddu because I wasn't aware of its existence after updating the drivers. However, yes, it seems to be related to my PSU now. I recall my PC freezing quite suddenly about three months ago—before that it was fine.
Performance drops over time regardless of reason, so swapping out a 10-year-old PSU makes sense.
