PC starts with a quick beep, looking for advice on installing a new motherboard and graphics card.
Previously, my Lenovo Y700 34ISH IdeaCenter failed to respond to the mouse or keyboard when I powered it on. After several restarts, I reached the Windows login but received no input. I checked all USB ports and different mice, yet power came back briefly before the login screen appeared. Removing the CMOS didn’t help. I tried taking out the RAM modules and graphics card, but nothing worked. Now the system beeps three times during startup, then stops working—no USB connection, screen shows "no input," and it powers down. At this point, I suspect a new motherboard is necessary. Only the two 8GB DDR4 RAM sticks are brand new (one year old), while the rest are outdated. I’m looking for guidance on a replacement motherboard with the same socket (115x) for my processor and a compatible graphics card that won’t cost too much. I can budget around 50 euros per month for upgrades. My current specs: Lenovo IdeaCenter Y700-34ISH, Windows 10 Home, 16GB RAM, Intel i5-6400 at 2.70GHz, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970. Thanks for any advice!
Start by verifying the motherboard matches a typical ATX size and uses standard power connectors. Most prebuilt boards come with unique dimensions, so you might need a compatible replacement. While the case and PSU appear standard, double-check your system. If confirmed as ATX, search eBay or local listings for affordable B150/B250 boards—used ones are usually cheaper. Before assuming failure, investigate the beep code; it could indicate dead memory, a faulty CPU memory controller, or a hardware issue with the RAM sticks. Since one stick is active while another isn’t, the problem is likely with the RAM rather than the board itself. Begin by reinserting the CPU and test each RAM stick separately to determine if booting is possible.
I'll take a photo and upload it tomorrow. Based on what I've seen online, it seems like the standard ATX setup. It's good to hear you agree with my earlier thoughts about the beep code indicating a memory issue. I'll follow your instructions and check further, then share any updates. Would be great to upgrade later with a more affordable model, and hopefully it will still work until next year when I can afford a new motherboard—this time it shouldn't be a custom build. Thanks again!
