Hi Everyone,

I recently got an old and unused ASUS G73JH-TY042V from a friend, and I need some guidance before getting it working again. I require someone to advise or assist me. Here are the details:

CPU
: Intel Core i5 - 520M
Motherboard
: Intel HM55
GPU
: ATI MOBILITY RADEON 5870 HD

Issue:
When I power on the laptop, two things happen:
- The fans start spinning but nothing appears on the screen
- The CPU fan is active, lights are on, but the GPU fan is off and nothing shows up

It boots up but then shuts down mid-use (sometimes before the system fully charges or while in the BIOS menu)
Occasionally, I can use it for 10-15 minutes, during which it heats up and then powers off.

What I've tried so far:
- Cleaning the motherboard and fans
- Checking thermal paste on CPU and GPU and reapplying new paste
- Updating the GPU BIOS
- Reseating the GPU
- Connecting to a monitor that shows "power management" and puts it into sleep mode

Request:
Has anyone had a similar problem with this configuration? Could you suggest the best way to get this machine back online?
Are there specific parts that need replacing or are many components faulty?

Apologies for the poor English. Thank you very much for your help.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
Thermal paste inspection:
I cleaned the old and dried thermal pastes on both CPU and GPU, then re-applied fresh ones.
Occasionally, I can leave it for 10-15 minutes—it warms up and shuts down.
Did you also clean the venting on the cooling assembly during the thermal paste replacement?

Thanks! I've also handled it. I even took apart the fans and cleaned them thoroughly with alcohol and a tissue. Plus, I tried warming up the motherboard, GPU, and CPU as well.
