PC shuts down unexpectedly while playing after installing a new GPU.
My friend's computer frequently experiences a BSOD after installing a 3070 during gameplay, especially in titles like Monster Hunter World, Marvel Rivals, and Valorant. The crashes seem to occur more quickly as the system demands increase. We observed reduced usage for both CPU and GPU.
What we attempted:
- Upgrading the power supply unit
- Performing a factory reset
- Installing all drivers
- Clearing GPU driver files and replacing them
- Inspecting the hard drive
Which complete specifications are provided, along with the brand and model details of the PSU? What previous GPU was used?
The new PSU features an Apevia 800w with gold certification. The CPU is an i7 8700. Previously, the GPU was a 1070ti. Storage includes an SSD 870 EVO with 1tb capacity. The motherboard is an Asus tek prime z370-p II.
Check Reliability History/Monitor and Event Viewer.
Both tools might record error codes, warnings, or other events before or during BSODs.
Each entry can be opened for additional information. The content might not always be useful.
We reviewed the event viewer and collected a few logs.
The first entry indicates: Event ID 6008, Level: Error, "The previous system shutdown at this time was unexpected."
The second shows: Event ID 41, Task Category: 63, Level: Critical, "The system has rebooted without cleaning and shutting down first. This error might stem from the system stopping, crashing, or losing power suddenly."
The third records: Event ID 1001, Level: Error, "The computer rebooted due to a bugcheck. The detected issue was 0x00000001e (details provided). A dump was saved at that location."
When we analyzed the dump with whocrash, it highlighted a "Kmode Exception Not Handled" linked to the driver "nepzy8gmvp.sys."
Using Driver Verifier revealed some games ran poorly, while others crashed immediately due to "DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION" with a message about "vgk.sys."
We then disabled the Driver Verifier, and the games played briefly before encountering the Kmode Exception crash.
