A few days back, my GPU performance dropped sharply once I booted up the PC. The game went from smooth 40fps to around 7 frames per second. Fusion 360 slowed down noticeably when I adjusted the camera angle. Restarting and reinstalling drivers didn’t help, so I did a clean Windows install. Everything looked normal after the update, and I upgraded to version 22H2. However, playing Warframe for about an hour caused the system to crash after a single mouse click. The screen went black instantly, while the fan and RGB stayed active. This issue hasn’t occurred with Blender, Fusion 360, or Forza Horizon 4 during my sessions. I’ve played Warframe on this machine for over three years across multiple Windows versions, yet it never failed. Right now, I have minimal software installed but the latest GPU drivers are up to date.
My setup includes: TR2970WX + STRIX 2080Ti x2, 64GB Vengeance RGB, and a ROG ZEA motherboard. PS: I noticed something odd—none of my programs retain the scaling adjustments I made after rebooting. After restarting because of a new software install, the performance problems returned. Now everything is running poorly, including Chrome and Steam. Last time Warframe was stable at 60 FPS, but it now experiences frequent lag spikes, staying around 30 FPS instead.
Recent AMD models have shown inconsistent behavior with RAM, often appearing after a build or shortly thereafter. My 5900X struggled for four months before functioning properly for about a month, then began acting erratically. If this setup has been stable for several years beforehand, I’d support @Robchil’s advice—consider replacing thermal pads and paste. It seems the PC is running very slowly, making it impossible to launch a game for testing.
If overheating occurs, the system will reduce performance to prevent damage. Start the HWINFO64 tool and execute a CPU benchmark using Cinebench. Run it in a windowed mode for real-time temperature tracking.
You might be amazed by the temperature sensors built into a CPU. My unit has one core, but the mainboard sensor can be removed from the CPU and checked directly. Using HWinfo64 it will also indicate if the system is throttling.
The OLED display relies on sensors within the CPU, managed by software. iCue confirms the temperatures are within normal ranges. (HWinfo is uploading but progressing very slowly.) It mentions no throttling, temperatures are fine, though a TCTL temperature reads above 70°C.
