I recently assembled my new PC about two months ago, and a friend wanted to try COD:Black Ops Cold War. Unfortunately, the game would just restart at the launcher instead of launching properly. It happened similarly when EasyAntiCheat loaded beforehand. I checked Activision support but reached a dead end after two weeks. Eventually, I decided not to buy any more CODs.
Last night I played New World and tried a few quests without it taking more than an hour. The same issue occurred randomly. In my mind, it started with Activision bugs before the game worked fine. I also ran stress tests on 3DMark and got over 95%—the system seemed stable.
I’m worried this might be related to my hardware or software. My specs are: Ryzen 5900X, ASRock X570, Steel Legend BIOS 3.70, Gigabyte 3080 GAMING OC, 12GB RAM, Corsair CMT32GX4M2Z3600C18, PSU Corsair HX1200. Any suggestions or clues would be greatly appreciated. I’m really concerned.
The temperatures are quite high, but a modern machine handles it without issues. It seems there might be a memory issue if those tasks use the most RAM. Running a memory test with memtest86 is time-consuming yet free. The event log could also give clues, though it’s unclear. In my opinion, everything is either working perfectly or not at all. Another possibility is that your drive is nearly full—this should be addressed separately. A chkdsk scan might help without causing harm. I was occupied recently while writing. I plan to run the memory benchmark, though I suspect it wasn’t a storage problem. I tested it on a 980 Pro SSD and HDD connected separately from my laptop, and I managed to play Cold War without issues—so it doesn’t seem like a disk issue. I also updated all drivers via Win Steps, but that didn’t help either. I’ll share the results once I complete the memory test.
It might be due to insufficient cooling if you're experiencing high temperatures while gaming. Ensure your PC has adequate airflow. Verify that your GPU is connected via two PCI-E cables to your PSU, rather than using a single cable with a splitter.
I'm okay with the cooler temperatures, but I checked the temperatures on my second monitor before it crashed. There seems to be one cable with a splitter at the end, and the GPU is powered via one cable that feeds into two PCI-E slots—could that be the problem?
