They mentioned returning the entire set of 2x16GB, and after receiving it they’ll send a replacement. I’m hoping it’s just the RAM and not another issue, otherwise I’m confused.
You approached your testing methodically and found that one of your RAM modules appears to be faulty. There is a third XMP configuration you should consider, which is turned off. Refer to the BIOS documentation for guidance.
The manual provides details on Extreme Memory Profile (X.M.P.):
- It enables the BIOS to interpret SPD data from installed XMP memory chips to boost performance when activated.
- Options include: Disabled, Profile1, Profile2, and potentially more advanced settings.
- Profile1 and Profile2 represent distinct levels of overclocking. They may not always deliver consistent results if your motherboard, RAM, or CPU isn't compatible.
- For your i9-12900K, a 5600MT/s configuration should function well, but higher speeds like 7000MT/s could be problematic.
- After installing new RAM, set XMP to Disabled in the BIOS to revert speed to the default 4800MT/s and ensure stability.
- Perform a comprehensive MemTest86 run (for several hours) to verify system health. Any errors should prompt corrective steps.
- Next, attempt Profile1 to see if it operates at a moderate speed, or Profile2 for maximum performance. If unsure about the BIOS details, repeat the MemTest86 with Profile2.
