I recently upgraded my CPU from the Ryzen 5 3400G to the Ryzen 5 5500 before replacing the old one. The BIOS update went smoothly, and the PC boots fine. I can play games without issues. However, installing games on Steam caused ongoing problems every time. Any software installs also trigger a reboot without BSOD, and the Event Viewer only shows error code 41.

I attempted to reset the CMOS, which resolved the issue temporarily for about three hours before it returned. I considered Windows updates or formatting the SSD, but the problem continued—either the PC would reboot during file copying or it would freeze.

I suspect the issue might be related to the motherboard or CPU after the BIOS update. Or perhaps the SSD is the culprit, as reinstalling on a different drive didn’t fix it. I’m wondering if others have encountered the same problem.

My current setup includes:
- MSI B450M Pro M2 Max
- AMD Ryzen 5 5500
- Colorful GTX 1660 Super
- 2x8GB Geil Evo Potenza
- Antec VP 500W
- SSD Kingston M.2 NVME 1TB
- SSD Kingston 128GB
- HDD WD Blue 1TB

I updated my motherboard and the problem is resolved. However, I’m still unsure why my previous one failed—possibly due to a corrupted BIOS during the update or a broken CPU socket after replacing the CPU.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer! Once you confirmed the BIOS was flashed correctly, did you reset the CMOS? Simply disconnect from the power source and display, remove the CMOS battery from the board, apply pressure to the power button for 30 seconds to discharge any remaining charge, and then reinstall the battery after a short wait. Regarding your build, what is the age of the PSU? How are you managing processor cooling after the upgrade?

I have attempted to reset the CMOS and the PC functions work for roughly three hours before the issues reappear. The PSU is nearly three years old, and all other components are similar except for the recently installed processor. I am using the Wraith cooling that came with the new processor.
