PC restarted while playing game
Occasionally, after hours of playing intense games such as Metro: Exodus and The Witcher 3, my PC suddenly restarts to the BIOS spash screen. Examining the Windows Event Viewer shows only code 41 with no additional codes. This issue appears only when a game is running at maximum power consumption for both CPU and GPU—approximately 100 watts on the GPU and 40 watts on the CPU. After the system rebooted, I reopened the game and it functioned normally again; it didn’t restart immediately. My suspicion points to the power supply unit or the motherboard, though I don’t have a spare PSU or motherboard for testing. What could be causing this? My CPU temperatures reach 72°C during demanding games, while the GPU stays at 70°C. Neither is overclocked, only slightly undervolted. My PC specifications are: CPU – Ryzen 5 5600G, GPU – Asrock RX6600, MB – Asrock B450M-HDV R4.0, RAM – Apacer NOX DDR4 3200mhz 8x2, PSU – Coolermaster MWE 550watt bronze, OS – Windows 11.
Hey there,
Error 41 indicates your CPU lost power. Since this occurs during load and restarts, it suggests the PSU might be the issue. Have you got another one to try? If not, a friend could lend you one. You might also take it to a local repair shop and have them test the PSU, then replace it.
Perhaps I should consider taking my PC to a local repair shop first. Trustworthy PC repair shops are difficult to find in my area, only small ones with unclear names, though they still have reviews on Google Maps.
Since this issue arises only when I play demanding games for a while, could it be that my PSU is overheating? And which component might fail if this continues?
I worry the repair expense will be too high. If fixing it costs about half of my PSU, I’d prefer to replace it and test it myself.
During the rain, some of my electrical system in the house—excluding lights and air conditioners—got interrupted because a hidden cable became wet. This issue occurs frequently, particularly during extended rainfall. It might be an early sign of the problem.
Error 41 indicates the system was restarted without being powered down first. It doesn't explain why it happened. Possible reasons for a restart include BSOD, driver or hardware problems, unstable power supply from the grid, overheating (which typically leads to power off instead of restart), or PSU protections activating (also causing power off).
Request an electrician to address the issue promptly, avoiding potential dangers such as a fire.
the "restore on ac power loss" options are disabled. therefore, a grid outage should result in the pc shutting down entirely instead of restarting.
