PC remains frozen on motherboard display after shutdown—restarts after power cycle.
Hey there, I’ve faced a similar problem and could use some guidance. When my computer sits idle for a few hours—like during the night—it freezes on the motherboard POST screen when I turn it back on. The keyboard and mouse won’t work, and it just stays stuck at that logo. The only solution is to force a shutdown by holding the power button, then restart and everything works fine afterward. Once it’s running normally, there are no further issues.
I’ve already disassembled and reassembled the PC to verify connections, updated the BIOS to the latest version, and tried various settings like loading optimized defaults. My main concerns are: I’m using a single SSD split into two partitions (one for the OS and one for storage), which might be affecting boot performance. Also, my power supply is connected to a power strip—could that influence cold boot behavior?
If you want more details, here’s my PC build list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ktZtBq Let me know if you need help with anything else!
Are there any warning indicators active? You might attempt a cold restart excluding the SSD to determine if it can clear the post screen.
Thank you for the update. There are no diagnostic lights, but I’ll attempt a cold boot without the SSD. I’ll also test connecting the PSU to a standard wall outlet first, as suggested.
