Attempting to capture CS:GO with fraps at 300 fps causes sudden drops to 30 fps, making the game extremely laggy. My system specs include an i5 4690k (overclocked), G1 970 (overclocked), 700W GPU, 500GB SSD, and a 5400rpm HDD. I've tried saving recordings to the SSD and HDD without success. The issue persists whether recording at 30 fps or keeping it at 300 fps. It stutters like an earthquake.
Fraps isn't great. I think the issue comes from how you set up your recording preferences.
I believe the HDD might be the problem. My setup includes an i5 4690K, a gigabyte gtx 970 G1 gaming at stock speed, and I can record smoothly at 60fps on a 7200rpm 750GB WD black 2.5" drive while using Audacity. Try turning off any overclocks to check if it resolves the issue; if not, verify your drivers are current. Also, ensure in Fraps you don’t have “Lock framerate while recording” or “Force lossless RGB capture” enabled, as these could cause conflicts. My loop buffer is set to 30 seconds in the movies tab, matching those other settings.
Use shadowplay. Unless you genuinely require raw footage, I'm not sure.
It seems you're suggesting using OBS instead of Fraps because it's easier to set up and likely performs better.
