Hey there, just moved from a 3070 to a PNY 4080 Super with 16GB RAM and a 650W to 1000W power supply. Now my PC often shuts down in-game, when launching games or switching wallpapers. Current specs: 5800X, 2x16GB RAM, 1TB M.2 2TB, three monitors. I've tried lowering the game demands and changing wallpapers, but not much improvement. I'm considering underclocking or undervolting to see if it helps. I've updated the drivers but haven't done a full reinstall yet. I'm still figuring things out and don’t have another machine to test parts. Any advice or reassurance would be great—this is frustrating!
The RTX 4000 lineup handles spikes better than the RTX 3000 models. The 4080 Super offers strong stability and efficiency, even with high power usage. It’s a 320W model. Still got your 3070?
Yeah, i do. i'll try that card again, but long story short, i'm going on vacation so this is like the worst time this could happen, i still need to pack lmao. I didnt know the spikes arent as bad anymore, that's good to hear i just did some hunts in MH World, no power offs at all, i'll try other games next time.
Sure! The RTX 4000 shouldn't cause issues and isn't likely to worry you. It might help to check which games crash the most on your PC and try them again with the RTX 3070. We'll figure out if the problem is with the GPU or the power supply. Looking forward to hearing from you after your vacation!
It's the XPS 15 series power unit. Please verify all internal power connections are correctly placed to prevent issues like blue screens or unexpected shutdowns.
Verify all connections carefully; if everything checks out, proceed to revert to the 3070 setup by reinstalling drivers and using the updated power supply. This helps identify whether the issue lies with the new PSU or the new GPU.
Hey, it's great to hear you're back! I've been gaming a lot lately—MHWorld, Destiny 2, and more—and everything seems to be running smoothly. No shutdowns reported. Not sure what caused the issue, but your connections look fine. Maybe there was a brief warm-up period? 😊
