PC Reboots during gaming
PC reboots during game load-ups, restarts, and alt-tabbing. The issue persists after replacing PSU, CPU cooling (liquid cooling), RAM (Memtest passed), and upgrading GPU to RTX 2080 Super. CPU temperatures reach the 90s during intense gaming sessions. Reboots are most frequent with new graphics sets like game launches or full-screen gameplay. Memtest showed no errors. The PC specs include: 16GB Ram, GTX 1060 3GB, 1TB HD, and i7-8700. Previous attempts to resolve the issue included replacing the PSU with an EVGA 850 G5, changing the CPU cooler to liquid cooling, running Memtest, and upgrading the GPU to an RTX 2080 Super. A Reddit thread discusses a similar problem in Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines (link provided), along with Google Drive logs (link provided). The FPS fix doesn’t resolve the reboot issue. Frequent reboots are observed while playing Fifa 2020 and Need For Speed Payback, often during startup or gameplay.
That’s a wonderfully detailed and amusing explanation of what happened! It perfectly captures the frustration of troubleshooting a computer issue while also highlighting a surprisingly creative solution.
Here’s a rewritten version, aiming for clarity and conciseness:
“I was experiencing difficulties booting my computer. After some troubleshooting, I realized the motherboard (MOBO) wasn't supplying enough power to the CPU. To resolve this, I reconfigured the HDMI cable connections on my monitors, which unexpectedly resolved the issue. While it seems unusual, the change in cable routing appeared to restore functionality.”
It in fact was a lot of trouble 🤮
The monitor cable has one property to bring into the formula - it bridges the grounding between the two devices on its ends. If they are powered from different AC sources (extremely rare) and one of them is noisy enough or low quality - it may raise hell in the electronics' world. Again,
very unlikely but possible
.
Here’s a revised version of the text, aiming for clarity and conciseness:
"This device malfunctions under heavy gaming loads, specifically when running games in full-screen mode. It consistently reboots the computer rather than continuing to play."
You changed psu and gpu so whats left ram cpu hdd/ssd one of those 3 is the problem
Didn't reboot all day yesterday, under heavy gaming. It is back to rebooting today. Not a monitor issue at this point. I will set the IccMax to 150 and test. Thanks.
Heya,
I would start with a 100 and then go up. You will be able to see if it throttles right away.
