PC randomly shuts off
Hello, in the last two days with roughly twelve hours of computer use, my machine unexpectedly shut down once during that period around midday. It doesn’t power back on when I press the power button, but if I set the switch to 0 and then back to 1 on the power supply, it restarts right away after turning on. In your opinion, would this be just a failing power supply or something more? The temperatures are very high in my 7000d airflow max unit. I think it might be a failing motherboard since it’s almost twice as old as the power supply I’ve had. I’ve thought about upgrading my CPU, RAM, and storage to newer models anyway, so this timing seems opportune. I’ll likely add a new power supply too, but I just wanted your thoughts. It’s a bit surprising that the PSU would be failing given the one I had before was seven years old and still working, though it wasn’t powerful enough for this setup (600 watts needed). The PSU itself is only about three years old.
I think the power supply might be the issue. It doesn't seem like age is the main problem, even with new units. Consider borrowing one for testing.
Me too, I think they don't make them as well now. I bought one on Amazon and plan to use their 30-day return policy. If it fixes the problem, I won't send it back. If not, I'd suspect the next issue is the motherboard and would return the power supply. I bet resetting the power supply switch helps because it discharges the capacitors and fully resets whatever's happening inside. We'll find out soon enough.
