PC newly assembled restarting or experiencing crashes.
I’m working on assembling this system over the past week. Since then, it’s been crashing or restarting randomly—1 to 3 times daily. I can play games or open Firefox/YouTube and Discord, but it will reboot. Sometimes it shows a blue screen, other times the screen goes black and restarts. I check Event Viewer regularly, but the errors aren’t clear enough for solid troubleshooting. I’m also unsure if what appears in Event Viewer is the real issue, after doing some research.
When I first built the PC, I didn’t have the 4080 Super; I used a GTX 1660 and it crashed too. I thought maybe adding the 4080 would help, but the problem persisted. I’ve reinstalled drivers, run CPU and memory tests, updated BIOS, disabled XMP, tried Windows Driver Verifier, rolled back to older NVIDIA drivers, and even read dump files.
I entered safe mode with Windows Driver Verifier but couldn’t access it. A search suggests this might be a common issue. My next steps include reinstalling Windows and adding one driver at a time to see if the crashes continue. I’m also curious about the monitor display during boot—does it change?
Any advice would be appreciated.
If the crashes aren't related to loading, consider removing one RAM stick and testing with just one. Run each stock separately to check stability. If neither works, proceed with the attempt.
I’ll give it a shot right now. It’s frustrating because each time I attempt a change, I have to wait for it to randomly restart or fail before I can confirm whether my action succeeded.
