PC motherboard compatible with Intel Core i5 9400F processor
Hey everyone, I need to refresh my old machine. I’m considering getting an i5 9400f and wondering which motherboard to choose. The MSI B365M PRO-VH comes to mind, but I’m unsure if it supports the latest updates or if a BIOS upgrade is necessary. With a tight budget, I want to know if it will be compatible with the ninth-gen Intel chips or if I should look for another option. Please don’t suggest buying Ryzen or AMD models. Thanks!
The B365 chipset is designed to work with the 9000 series CPUs, ensuring compatibility. It doesn’t need a BIOS update to function with a 9400F. However, unless this 9400F is the only choice available nearby, it’s surprising you wouldn’t consider alternatives like Zen 2 or Comet Lake, which are newer and offer better performance.
It comes with Coffee Lake 2 by default. If you can, consider bringing back the CPU and opting for a 3100/3300x or B450 board instead. This setup seems outdated, but the 3100 offers better performance. No solid reason behind it, just curious. Edited August 15, 2020 by TofuHaroto
