PC Monitor (Driver?) Fails When Stressed - Black Screen Appears
Experiencing issues with PC drivers or GPU freezing during high load. Typically happens within five minutes after stressing the GPU with CS2, and the motherboard reset button fails. The system must be fully powered off before restarting from the front panel.
System details: Kernel version 6.8.0-59-generic, architecture x86_64, 64-bit, built with gcc v13.3.0. Running on Linux Mint 22.1, based on Ubuntu 24.04. Desktop environment is Cinnamon version 6.4.8.
Motherboard: ASRock X470, SLI/ac model, serial not shown. UEFI set to American Megatrends v: P4.90, released 2022-11-01. CPU is an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X with 8 cores, 64 threads.
Performance metrics: Average 2838 MHz, peak up to 4840 MHz, minimum 2200 MHz. Core usage ranges from 1 to 9, with boost enabled for most cores.
Recent changes: Switched power supply from EVGA 750W to Seasonic 1600W. Replaced all components with functional alternatives (new motherboard, GPU, PSU). Added UPS for better stability. Monitored power draw via ROOM; spikes were observed but not directly linked to crashes.
Logs and notes: System logs attached, but data may be unreliable due to scripting limitations. Possible cause suggested: unstable wall power with voltage drops from nearby car chargers.
The swap of motherboard GPU and PSU could point to software issues rather than hardware problems. Is this your first Linux installation? How does it perform under Windows?
