I've been looking for a reliable computer for some time to handle titles like Crusader Kings or BG3 early access, and given Microsoft's acquisition of Bethesda along with the scarcity of console exclusives, I decided to skip the PS5 and build one myself.
My background in components and parts is limited to a few articles and videos, and the store employee offered to assemble it for a fee.
Eventually, things progressed smoothly until my system suddenly crashed and shut down.
For comparison, the BG3 beta runs at around 40 fps on ultra, then crashes during combat. Greedfall and Dragon Age Inquisition perform better in terms of frame rate but still shut down unpredictably—sometimes during an explosion, other times while panning or zooming. The fans spin extremely fast, causing the PC to fail abruptly.
I'm using a 1060 with 6GBs, but the processor is outdated (i5-2500), which the seller assured would suffice and save costs. However, even then, lag seems inevitable. DAI runs about seven years old, and Greedfall is a light RPG; the processor should still handle it.
Other important details: 500-watt PSU, which should be adequate according to my research.
The builder I consulted was extremely unhelpful, suggesting a GPU burner instead of fixing the PC, and advising me to measure heat after crashes—something I didn’t understand. The PC can idle without crashing, but performance remains a concern.
Any advice would be appreciated.
complete system specifications are available, including the PSU make and model.
8 GB RAM
LGATX500W from LG
i5-2500k 3.30 ghz
Nvidia 1060 6gbs
For reference, I attempted to run both GPU and CPU at once. The CPU temperature stayed steady at 80°C for two minutes before the system crashed. During gameplay in BG3, the CPU never exceeded 67°C before shutdown, so this might not be the issue.
Bench marking DAI causes crashes in full screen mode as well.
